Meet our Pastors

Rev. Jagan Samuvelraj serves as our pastor. He earned his master’s degree in Theological Studies from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago.

Rev. Jagan’s childhood was in a more ‘churchy’ environment in Chennai – as a choir member, baritone singer, choir leader, cross-bearer, youth group leader. In his own words, “It’s not the religious upbringing that steered me into full-time ministry, rather it’s God’s Grace and leading in one of the most trying times of my life”. That led him to pursue his graduation in Theology from Gurukul Lutheran Theological College, after meritoriously completing B.E from Anna University, Chennai. Hence his oft-repeated words of hope and encouragement are, “If you are in a trying time, God is working for you”.

Rev. Jagan and Caroline Karunya Jagan, partner in life and in ministry have been married since 2015. They are proud parents of two boys Kevin, and Rayden. Both enjoy working together as a team and discovering more challenging adventures together! As a young couple who understands the difficulties in starting a new life in another country, they are of great assistance to people who go through similar situations in life.

Rev. Godwin Kanaka Raj founded Christ Tamil Church, Chicago in 2015. He earned his theological degree in 1984 under Serampore College. He pastored at London Missionary Society Church in Palliyadi, South India for twelve years before immigrating to the US in 1996.

In the US, he received his Master of Theology in pastoral care and counseling from Calvin Theological Seminary, in Grand Rapids, MI. He is the founding pastor of Tamil United Church of Christ (Chicago Christian Church), Chicago and ministered there for eighteen years, before he started ministering in Christ Tamil Church, Chicago.

Rev. Godwin is married to Mrs. Malar Raj and is blessed with a daughter and two grandchildren. Their daughter Blessy Raj Jerome is married to Rev. Mel Jerome.
